a state of low-level alert, scanning for threats, never fully relaxing. And in that state, the auditory

This is why managing stress "doesn't really work" for most tinnitus sufferers. Telling a brain in chronic
alert mode to relax is like telling someone to sleep when there's an alarm going off. The nervous
system needs to be calmed at the root — not managed around the edges.
